Test Interpretation - Otis Lennon

The Otis-Lennon School Ability Test scores appear near the middle of your score report.

This is a short test - 40 minutes - and is taken on another day during the week before the MAT 7 is given. Students take a practice test prior to the Otis-Lennon so that they will be familiar with the manner in which answers are to be marked.

The types of scores reported are similar to the types used to report results of the MAT 7 . Please refer to the explanations given there. (Test Interpretation - MAT 7)

The School Ability Index measures verbal and nonverbal abilities.

Average scores range from 84 to 116. Sixty eight of every 100 children will obtain SAI scores within this range.

Two children in every 100 will score above 132.

Two children in every 100 will score below 68.

Percentile bands shown on the graph show the confidence level for each test segment. Testing children is not an exact science. On another day, your child's scores would likely be slightly different than the ones he obtained this time. To allow for those differences, confidence bands are often used. Two out of three times, the child's score will fall within the range shown by the percentile confidence band indicated. Average scores lie anywhere between the 23rd and 77th percentiles.

If your child has taken an individual ability test, the results of the individual test are probably more accurate than are the scores from the group test. Individual tests are usually more reliable.
